Hate crimes refer to the criminals’ acts that are propagated by a group of individuals or individuals because of the sexual orientation, disability, gender, national origin, ancestry, religion, color, and race (Streissguth, 2009). The crimes usually occur as a result of ignorance and prejudice. Most of the perpetrators of these crimes are people who lack understanding about the various cultures and traditions of different people.

This is the primary reason that causes ignorance and prejudice. If these issues are not addressed, they can lead to hate-motivated violence and acts of intimidation (Jacobs & Potter, 1998). My chosen topical area is the religious and racists hate crimes. The religious and racist hate incidences refer to the prejudice or hostility towards an individual because of his religion or race (Perry et al., 2009). The religious and racist hate crimes usually take some forms. They include bullying, damage to property, issuing threats and ultimatums, physical and verbal abuse, and online abuse just but to mention a few (Segal, 2010).

There are two categories of the religious and racist hate crimes. The first group is contained in the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 while the other falls into the category in which the sentence can be increased under the Criminal Justice Act 2003 (Jacobs & Potter, 1998). It is crucial to note that when the offense is classified as either religious or racist hate crime, the judge can impose very tough sentences to the offender.

There are many challenges and problems that exist in crime and criminology as far as the religious and racist hate crimes are concerned. One of the challenges of this problem is that it is connected to suffering. To adequately address this issue, the suffering must be addressed. This means that the religious and racists bile and intolerances must be addressed (Jacobs & Potter, 1998).

The other problem that exists in this type of crime is the different ideological differences being propagated. The religious hate crimes are usually spread by people with a very selfish agenda.  For instance, in most of the countries that are predominately Islamic, the youth have been radicalized using some verses in the Holy Quran. To adequately address this crime successful requires an ideological perspective and not entirely a legal one (Jacobs & Potter, 1998).

The leaders are the primary stakeholders, and they are the people that contribute to this problem either directly or indirectly. The buck stops at the political and religious leaders as far as the propagation of the religious and racist hate crimes are concerned. The political leaders, for instance, are required to govern their people as per the constitution and promote unity and togetherness (Streissguth, 2009).

However, some political leaders have used their influential position to create division by preaching for the exclusion of other citizens based on their religion and race. Some religious leaders on their part have chosen to radicalize the youth. They systematically use individual scripts to preach hatred against governments and religions. This is how terrorism has been able to spread fast in different parts of the world. The general public is also a stakeholder since the people who propagate these crimes leave in a given society.

The same leaders also hold the solutions to these problems. It is important to note that it is the role of every leader to preach peace and promote the co-existence of his subjects. They also have a role to spearhead developments in their constituencies. Research has shown that most of the youths are usually radicalized and engage in crime because of unemployment. The religious leaders on their part are supposed to be tolerant towards the other religions. Propagating hate using the Holy Scriptures has no place in the 21st century.

According to the data that I obtained from Federal Bureau Investigations, the highest percentage of these hate crimes occurred near or on the residential property. The other areas where these crimes were committed were on the highways, colleges, schools, and hospitals. I also collected data and information on this subject from lawyers, victims, and leaders. From the data that I collected, I noticed that most of the African-Americans were subjected to the racial hate speech.

Some of the areas whereby these Americans were discriminated against included the residential schools and the military internment camps just but to mention a few. The historical racial discrimination, especially of the immigrants, is clearly reflected in the socio-economic inequality. There are still businesses, individuals, and companies who subject people to racial discrimination when they want to own property, seek loans, or employment.

It is imperative to report the incidences of hate crimes to the police. It does not have to happen to you to report an incident. For instance, as a neighbor or support worker, you can report cases of religious and racist hate crimes directed towards someone else. When reporting the case, it is important to indicate that that the prejudice and hostility were based on religion or race. There are various Acts that have been enacted which prevent all the Americans from any discrimination of bias (In Chakraborti & In Garland, 2014). The Equality Act 2010 protects various individuals from harassment and hostility at work because of their religion or race.

The script is also replayed in the religious circles. According to the data that I collected, I noticed that there are some religions that project themselves as the best religion. Islamic, for instance, refers to the non-Muslims as “kafir”; which translates to non-believers. They then use some texts from the Holy Quran to preach intolerance against the other religions. Some of these religious leaders have controversially urged the radicalized youths to wage Jihad towards the non-Muslims. Muslims have also experienced the similar treatment from the Christian companies and business because of their faith. There are Christian businesses that do not employ Muslims because they feel that Islamic is not the right faith. This data is evident of the challenges and problems in crime and criminology.

Based on my research, there are some measures which should be put in place to address the challenges and problems in criminology. As much, there are various laws that address some of these issues, developing a legal framework will help tackle this vice. A legal framework will help resolve some of the legality of these crimes (In Chakraborti & In Garland, 2014). The loose ends in the existing laws should be tightened. The legal framework will help bring to book some of these perpetrators of these vices. This is likely to end this vice in the long run.

Secondly, the leaders have the responsibility to unite the people regardless of their religion or race. They should also spearhead developments within their jurisdiction that will prevent the idle youths from being radicalized (Perry et al., 2009). The religious leaders on their part are supposed to embrace other religions and be tolerant. Thirdly. It is important for the victims to come out and report these cases. From my research, I realized that there are some of these cases that go unreported. The spirit and letter of the constitution should be respected to fight successfully the religious and racist hate crimes (Segal, 2010).
