Discussion #2 respond to this post below 100 word peers’ sample selections. Propose an alternative sample choice with justification, special circumstances, or issues that may need attention in your peer’s sample. Note that this discussion is reinforcing the fact that you can get many different samples from the same population.

The organization that I will be identifying a sample population for is Frito Lay. Frito Lay is the leading consumer packaged goods company who has many powerful brands. Frito Lay has a new innovation flavor of Doritos which they are looking to bring to market to specifically be geared towards the Gen X population. This flavor will be slightly tangy but will not have an overabundance of spice. Currently, the Frito Lay is looking to gain traction back from competitors in the Gen X population as the competition has develop products which cater towards this group. This survey will allow Frito Lay to confirm whether tangy is the most relevant flavor to compete against competition in the marketplace, or if there is another flavor profile which needs to be developed. In order to select a sample group, I will survey a broad spectrum of individuals between the ages of 42 and 51. This will allow us to narrow the sample to the correct age group. Current population of the Gen X group is 65 Million. It would be important to survey at list 650,000 in order to have some generalized representation across the country. Fortunately, this age group is fairly large which will allow for easier data retrieval.  This sample number is approx. 1% of the total Gen X population.

Discussion #1 respond to this post below 100 wordS

For Frito Lay, if there is a generational movement which is miscalculated or overlooked it could be disastrous for their share of market performance. Currently, the millennial population enjoys intense flavors and spice. The generations such as Baby Boomer currently over index in core flavors such as Regular Lays or Original Ruffles. What previous data has told us is that Gen X enjoy an in-between such as a tangy. If another company were to more quickly accomplish a flavor development plan to take over this age group, there would be much concern at Frito Lay.

Discussion #2 respond to this post below 100 words

A sample survey quizzes and records the responses of potential respondents in order to estimate that of a larger population (Sharp et al, 2019). The population used is usually determined by the study’s “why”; while the participants are the “who”; the “when” and “how” are practical to the survey (Sharp et al., 2019).

For this discussion, I am using my employer and an example of market research that we intend to partake in this month. My employer is a manufacturer of lighting and safety systems for the heavy-duty trucking industry.

For a trailer to receive power, the truck pulling the trailer provides the power via a power cord. The “outlet” to receive the power on the trailer is the nose box. While we currently supply nose boxes, we know that our market share in this product line is only 10%. We also know that more and more fleets and OEMs are interested in telematics and receiving data from their trucks and trailers on the road. We have also heard the size of the box is important as it is using real estate on the front of the trailer.

The survey will help us determine what our next generation nose box should be. What attributes does it need? What additional functions should it be able to provide? What features of the competitive product is preferred that our current nose box doesn’t provide?

Just like manufacturing creates prototype samples of product for customer approvals, we use sample data as we can’t survey the whole population. The sample population to be studied will be the 29 North American OEM trailer manufacturers. Of these 29 manufacturers we will survey the top 10 market share holders. These top 10 manufacturers were chosen as they built 86% of the 333,037 trailers built in 2019 and should provide the most feedback regarding installation concerns and why most fleets prefer the competition’s offering.
